Hi all... Can you help let others know about this weekend's workshop - via direct e:mail, phone call, f2f or via your social media networks?
I'm thinking we should move along in workshopping the following:
- themes (currently health, employment, education, safety)
- dramatic form (currently an A4 booklet or book, several short films, possibly some posters)
- scripts or plans for each 'project'
- teams who are committed to working…

What's news? Who is thinking about who they're going to bring to the Trans World Cafe on the 15th November? Family members or work colleagues that just don't quite get it? Gender-questioning friends with too many questions? We'll be exploring 3 issues/ideas put forth by community members... along the lines of 'when have you felt at home with yourself?'. Please let us know you have any ideas for questions?
And come along to the next workshop on the 7th November when we'll be polishing…

We had a lovely Sunday arvo workshop last week, stirred by a challenge to write a couple of sentences on a turning point, a weird/funny experience/memory of gender, a mentor or an antagonist who you ended up learning something from. The homework task was to distill this story into a couple of 'locked off sentences with an accompanying image in order to upload to our new webspace at www.storiesbeyondgender.com We set everybody up with…

So group members Sam, Evelyn, Hayley and I did a road trip down to Mt. Gambier last weekend to meet the community. A trans/queer/gender-questioning group gather at the excellent Metro Cafe (more of a bar/restaurant/gourmet bakery IMHO) every Monday night. Quite a few were keen to hear more about sharing stories #beyondgender. Give them a shout on their Facebook group here.
On Sunday we spread out our creativity…

Digital Storytelling workshops often start with a kind of warm and fuzzy story circle… despite mutual awkwardness it’s an important step in building trust.
We often look at some sample stories, like ‘Blue for Boys? Pink for Girls?’ and…

Hi Sonja,
I joined because I have lesbian parents and was looking to meet other kids/adult kids of queer parents. I think that we face unique joys and challenges and as yet we have no forum to come together and discuss them. I'm in the process of setting up a 'Queerspawn Synposium'. I also just appreciate the opportunity to participate in a space that validates my family.
Hi Sonja, thank you for the warm welcome. I'm hoping to spread the Rainbow Family Tree message through my twitter account. I got a lot out of the 'Marriage Is So Gay' video posted and think we need to get the 'homophobia doesn't just affect homosexuals' message out there. There are kids involved. There are parents involved. Everything isn't black and white.
Thanks again, Grumps
Sonja,
Thanks for your email. I have just replied, but I think I sent a message rather than added a comment. All new, I'm afraid, and a bit of mystery, but hope you got it anyway!

Hi Sonya :)
Thanks for the welcome :) I joined the site because I really enjoyed watching the digital stories and I'm keen to listen to more stories of other's experiences. I have only recently "come out" myself, but hopefully I can soon create my own digital story to share. But first I need to get through yr 12.
DeAnne :D
Hi Sonya
thanks for the warm welcome. My sister Melina and her wife Bronwen got me onto Rainbow Family Tree with their wonderful digital stories. Melina said that there may be some way I could learn to do them too which would be great. I checked out the site and as it said it was for families and friends of gay families, I thought I'd join! I'm enjoying reading someof the blogs and looking at some of the stories. thanks. Keep up the wonderful work! Larisa
Thanks for the welcome! We packed Riley off to primary school this morning wearing an equal rights now badge and a rainbow sticker with "love makes a family" emblazened on it. Her teacher has agreed to read a story to the Reception class, we provided 4 books for her to choose from; two of the Learn to Include series, Todd Parr's Family Book and the fabulous book about the two gay penguins at New York Zoo! She has been busy explaining terms like 'gay' and 'straight' to all her classmates as well. Quite the little activist we are raising :-)
More exciting stuff going on at Jo's (my partner) school, Unley High. They are celebrating IDAHO day by flying the rainbow flag on one of the schools flag poles and handing out free rainbow cake at lunch time. Lots of her students were at the Rally on Saturday and the good thing to come out of that disgusting display by the street preachers is that it has strengthened the resolve of the students to create and make thrive South Australia's first high school Gay/Straight Alliance.
