I joined because I have lesbian parents and was looking to meet other kids/adult kids of queer parents. I think that we face unique joys and challenges and as yet we have no forum to come together and discuss them. I'm in the process of setting up a 'Queerspawn Synposium'. I also just appreciate the opportunity to participate in a space that validates my family.
Hi Sonja, thank you for welcoming me,I haven't spent a lot of time on here as yet,but yes,I would love to share more on here with everyone, but I spend way too much time on FB chatting to my beautiful fiance, lol.we've just celebrated our first anniversary this weekend, and had the most beautiful, precious amazing time together..I hope in the future that I can share more about us,and the wonderful love we are so incredibly blessed to have. :-)
Hi Sonja, thank you for the warm welcome. I'm hoping to spread the Rainbow Family Tree message through my twitter account. I got a lot out of the 'Marriage Is So Gay' video posted and think we need to get the 'homophobia doesn't just affect homosexuals' message out there. There are kids involved. There are parents involved. Everything isn't black and white.
Thanks for your email. I have just replied, but I think I sent a message rather than added a comment. All new, I'm afraid, and a bit of mystery, but hope you got it anyway!
Thanks for the welcome :) I joined the site because I really enjoyed watching the digital stories and I'm keen to listen to more stories of other's experiences. I have only recently "come out" myself, but hopefully I can soon create my own digital story to share. But first I need to get through yr 12.
thanks for the warm welcome. My sister Melina and her wife Bronwen got me onto Rainbow Family Tree with their wonderful digital stories. Melina said that there may be some way I could learn to do them too which would be great. I checked out the site and as it said it was for families and friends of gay families, I thought I'd join! I'm enjoying reading someof the blogs and looking at some of the stories. thanks. Keep up the wonderful work! Larisa
Thanks for the welcome! We packed Riley off to primary school this morning wearing an equal rights now badge and a rainbow sticker with "love makes a family" emblazened on it. Her teacher has agreed to read a story to the Reception class, we provided 4 books for her to choose from; two of the Learn to Include series, Todd Parr's Family Book and the fabulous book about the two gay penguins at New York Zoo! She has been busy explaining terms like 'gay' and 'straight' to all her classmates as well. Quite the little activist we are raising :-)
More exciting stuff going on at Jo's (my partner) school, Unley High. They are celebrating IDAHO day by flying the rainbow flag on one of the schools flag poles and handing out free rainbow cake at lunch time. Lots of her students were at the Rally on Saturday and the good thing to come out of that disgusting display by the street preachers is that it has strengthened the resolve of the students to create and make thrive South Australia's first high school Gay/Straight Alliance.
Kim had tried all of those things and it still didn't seem to be working. It also seems to be that she's a bit too snowed under with stuff at her end and just can't give it any more time right now. It's a shame, 'cos she writes nice tunes...
Anyway, I've done a dodgy recorder version of twinkle twinkle (?!) and the story is now done. whew! I have tried uploading it here but can't remember how to do it - and don't know what the "embed code" is that I'm supposed to copy and paste... It's on Facebook - Melina has reposted it, so you could at least see it there? Sorry to be a technical nong...
Anyway, hopefully the committee people on Monday will like it (friends and family think it's good - but then, they would, wouldn't they?)...
I'm working on a story to show when Melina and I give evidence at the same sex parliamentary inquiry (on Feb 21st, so quite soon). The story's basically done. One hitch, my sister has written a piece of music specially for it, but has been having a lot of trouble working out how to get a good recording of it. (She's in Melbourne). She's a mac girl, and would be playing the song on her digital piano - trying to get an Mp3? Do you, or anyone you know have an idea for how to do this? It will make a big difference to the story - and I'm not sure what other music I could use given copyright issues at this late stage...
Hope you're travelling ok and not too busy. We miss seeing you and Ari!
Hi Sonja,
I'm not sure what happened to my last email to you. It was about our JAFL 20th anniversary event which is happening on Friday November 27th. (Fanny is also a member of JAFL, and Margie Fischer...) We are looking for someone who is willing to film or photograph the event so that we can use the footage later. If you are interested, or know someone who might be, I would be grateful if you would please give me some idea of how much you would charge. I can then take that back to the group so we can decide how best to proceed. Also, if you would please let me know that you've received this email, I will feel reassured that it got through this time!
Many thanks,
Melina
Not too bad, thanks. I have about 30 seconds done...but of course that could all change lol. I'm using a combination of Philip's music and mine. It's fairly abstract :/
Hey Sonja, couldn't understand why I kept coming up as you...I was still logged in as you from when Annmarie was here. Hope that hasn't interupted your use of website.
