Sorry i didnt get a chance to say hi today Fanny, but thanks for sharing this story. Different, of course, to stories that are slowly coming out about queer women's pregnancy loss, but just as powerful in your telling of a story that is so rarely shared within queer communities.

Bye Bye Baby – by Fanny Jacobsen

This story is about moving along on my journey of deciding not to become a bio mother. It still makes me sad but, like other disappointments in my life, time has served to heal and I continue to create magic with thoughts and visions and energy. Saying this story out loud means really letting go of my grief around not pursuing pregnancy and bio motherhood.

The final text of the story is pretty close to my first draft. The images are pretty much all the special children in my life. Most of them are between 15 and 20 now. The landscapes are Israel and Greece which is where I was during and post termination. There are also photographs of myself as a child in black and white throughout the film, locating me as a child from another era. The music is a wonderful accompaniment ... I got it from Jamendo and the artist is Maya Filipic. The mood is very sad and I worried about this too…

It was hard for me to make the film. I procrastinated and made excuses for not getting back to it and even at one stage thought I wouldn’t complete the project. I think that this was a reflection of my fear of telling this story and some guilt also about not being more positive about not having a child - but it is a stark decision.

Making the film is a true telling of my experience and that has been cathartic. I've dedicated the film to my father from whom I kept the secret of my pregnancy.

Lovely! So steadfast and sorrowful in one. The music you chose for your piece is just right too!! You are right about your Rainbow family and belonging now Fanny and your current role in helping others find their sense of belonging, and I believe that our furry pets evoke the same feelings of Love and Care in us as our human children. I have had similar experiences to you and I grieve for my lost children and possibilities also, I think many people will relate to these things you have expressed in many different ways.

Hi Fanny, I particularly enjoyed your narration on this film. It was very strong, and there was plenty of emotion in your voice. The images made me very curious! I like the way you've used that effect of focusing them - initially many of them look blurred or pixellated, and then they come into focus. I hop you can see mine soon, too. Life is a strange journey, isn't it. xo
