Melina,
So honest and real with a smidge of humour which is divine.. we all need to laugh - especially helpful for some as they "digest" important new information. Thanks for sharing such a great story

I sent the link to this film to ALL Staff where I work, and I waited nervously to see what the reaction would be. It took more than 24 hours for the first person to tell me he had watched it - he's a good friend on staff. He liked it very much and suggested that the rest of the staff are all going LALALALALALALALA! Maybe so. I do like to push that envelope! I recently "came out" to them as Jewish, which is a story in itself. Since then 2 or 3 other people have mentioned it. One is a self-confessed film buff who asked me whether I wanted real feedback. She was impressed by the animations, but thought there was just too much colour going on, which distracted her. She really loved Mahdi's film (by the way) and not just because it's in black and white. *thumbs up*.

Melina, I'm so surprised to hear your reaction! Everybody who has seen it so far has laughed, smiled and shrugged with the irony of it alll... Rosie has started saying 'la la la' whenever she comes across something annoying! I'm sure the response from an audience on Saturday will be heartening!

oh dear.... I'm embarrassed now! It's so different from everyone else's... oh well. I'm a bit sad that the music at the end has dropped off the final version. But oh well. maybe someone will like it.

La La Land – by Melina Magdalena

The storyboard for La La Land was originally a lot longer. It started as a direct personal message that challenged one person’s worldview and position of power. Instead, it became a more universal story that speaks of the hurt and confusion that is perpetuated by the silencing and covering up of the deviance and diversity that exists in every family. Thank goodness we are not all clones of one another.
Making the story was a lot more fun than I expected it to be. I was so happy to have an excuse to do something creative, and I totally surprised myself by meeting the deadline. It was challenging to have sole creative power to determine all aspects of the story, and I worked hard to put it together just right. The humour developed as I gained confidence with using the different software and equipment. I have been bitten big-time by the bug – I’m now much more curious and aware about the work that goes into producing a visual story, and I keep thinking of more ideas for other digital stories.
