Andre Stoffels commented on Sophie Pointer's blog post Would you get Unioned?
"Hi Sophie.  I think you're right about the unlikelihood of the Marriage Act being changed.  The talk about Labor offering a conscience vote to its parliamentarians on this issue would, I believe, only be countenanced in the…"

Andre Stoffels commented on Sophie Pointer's blog post To Rally or not to Rally....that is the question.
"I am so pleased that I went to the rally.  Yes Sonia I did enjoy it and thanks for asking.  It was so good to see people standing up for their rights and being a small part of it. I guess it's never too late to experience new things…"

Andre Stoffels commented on Sophie Pointer's blog post To Rally or not to Rally....that is the question.
"I missed the last rally but from what I saw I don't think I'd take my daughter with me to the next one if she was 6. I don't think I'd want her to be exposed to the sort of anger and behaviour I saw in some of the videos.…"

Marriage is So Gay!

"So glad you approved.  I'm always a bit wary of using other people's stuff without asking first but his position disappointed me and your story seemed like the best thing I could send to him.  I have said that I would like to…"

Marriage is So Gay!

"One small thing that I think I can do to promote the sought after change to the Marriage Act is to write to politicians and anyone else I can think of that might be able to influence the debate.  (Please let me encourage you to do the…"

Andre Stoffels commented on Kimby's blog post Something small that made a big difference
"What a delightful simple story epitomising what probably everyone in society wants to feel - to simply be accepted for who we are.  Seemingly such a small thing to give but a huge gift to receive. Such a shame that too many…"

"Thanks for this Andre! Handy things to quote... In reflecting upon my meeting with Andrew Southcott I was struck at how little I pushed him to define or justify his position. Several people have asked why I didn't ask him outright why…"

Having sent emails to Government representatives, I thought it time to see how the opposition felt about the issues I was raising.  So I sent the following email to Mr Andrews: Dear Mr AndrewsI am writing to you as Shadow Minister for Families, Housing and Human Services as I believe the issue I am raising with you would fit within the purview of your portfolio. On the 17th of May this year, the world observed the International Day Against Homophobia.  In the days leading up to that event, I…See More

"I guess trying to generate change in society can be a bit like using water to erode stone. Each little "drip of action" we take may seem to have little visible effect but through the accumulated impact of may "drips of action"…"

"Thanks Sophie. I want to see the good in people but the actions of our politicians remind me too much of the things I saw when I watched the Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister series.  Whenever Jim Hacker's were praised as being…"

I'm still finding my feet in my new world having only been out for a relatively short period of about 10 months.  But I have emailed a few politicians (a new thing for me) on homophobia and equal love.  One of them is my local Federal MP, Mr Nick Champion. Here's the correspondence so far - nothing brilliant but just me having my first go supporting an issue that is important to me. On the 12th of May 2011, I sent an email to Nick Champion, Member for Wakefield.  The email said:  "Tuesday May…See More

Marriage is so Gay!

"A gently put but powerful message.  There is a great deal to admire in the courage that you, your daughter and the rest of your family have shown in being willing to put this message "out there".  "

Profile Information

What would you most like to change about the world that you live in?
It would be so good if people could learn to listen and try to understand one and other. Perhaps then there wouldn't be so much hatred and bigotry which is so often born out of ignorance.
What can you do to make it happen?
Hopefully I can try to understand and listen to the people I meet and encourage them to extend the same courtesy to me. Small steps but perhaps they may then be encouraged to take the same approach with others in their life.
When you're not busy changing the world, what do you do for fun?
Try to meet and enjoy the company of new and old friends. Nothing better than a good chat, over a beverage of some sort, with good company.
